Dental Implant Recovery

If you have to replace missing teeth and need an implant, then you should know that there is a new revolutionary dental implant technique which reduces treatment time and pain dramatically.

The ‘Teeth-in-an-Hour’ program of Nobel Biocare gives you a new tooth within just one treatment and a short surgery.

roseville dental implantsThe traditional ways to do implants is by implanting an anchor into the jawbone first. Then, after a healing period of several weeks or months, the bone has grown around the anchor and the implant can be set. This usually takes another surgery and another healing period. Then the denture is fixed to the implant and your tooth or bridge is ready.

Such implants are usually made of titanium but can also be made of porcelain. Titanium is a very long lasting, durable material and ideal for implant surgery to replace missing teeth. The anchor works as an artificial root for a new tooth. This can be a beautiful porcelain crown for example which looks very natural.

A missing tooth should always be replaced because the gap destabilizes the surrounding teeth. The gap is not only an aesthetical issue. With time, the bone weakens at this area and grows back, together with the muscles attached to this bone. The faster you replace the tooth the better.

There have been great advances in dental implant surgery recently. One invention from Biocare has changed the implant technology quite a bit. The secret lies in finding the best and strongest point for the implant in the jawbone. This reduces the required drilling to a minimum. To achieve this, a CT Scan is done which is then analyzed by a sophisticated software. The perfect points are marked and a custom made prothesis is manufactured. The dentist then uses this prothesis together with a detailed drill guide to make a perfect, clean little surgery. There is no more waiting until the artificial tooth can be attached to the implant.

With very little pain, muss less time and minimal trauma, the patient leaves the chair with a new functional tooth in place. This method was FDA approved in 2004 , which means it has been clinically documented. The costs for this dental implant surgery are not much higher than for the traditional surgery. Cosmetic dentists get trainings from Biocare so that more and more dentists offering these new implant technique worldwide.

The costs for dental implants are about $1200 to $3000 per tooth.

Dental Insurance For Implants

Sunday, February 15th, 2009

Consider a few things.

Have you spoken at length with your dentist about the procedure, what it involves, and getting down to the nitty gritty, what it will cost, including taxes, down to the last penny?

south jersey dental implantsIf you presently do not have any kind of dental insurance, bear in mind that once you sign a policy with a company many plans clearly state that you must wait a year before you go ahead with any dental work. An option is to look to a dental HMO as many do not have any waiting periods whatsoever (or some do but it might be only a matter of months as opposed to a year). If you have an insurance policy that covers dental work then congratulations, but look at your policy very closely and carefully as many policies cover such procedures as regular check ups, cleanings, fillings and extractions but not cosmetic procedures such as orthodontics and dental implants. Don’t find yourself in a no-win situation by not doing your homework ahead of time.

Check you policy and see what it does (and does not) cover before you schedule an appointment for dental implant surgery. Some insurance policies do not cover conditions that were pre-existing before the policy began (for instance, broken or missing teeth), while others pay a certain amount or in some cases, pay for the ‘least expensive alternative treatment’ (abbreviated to LEAT), according to the guidelines set down by the insurance company.

If you are considering choosing a new insurance plan and/or selecting one for the first time, you need to ask yourself a number of relevant questions found below.

First of all, if it is a plan that is offered by your workplace, are you as an employee allowed to pick your own dentist or will he/she be chosen for you? Secondly, is the kind of dental treatment you choose to undergo decided upon by yourself as the patient and the dentist, or there is a third party involved in the decision making process? Thirdly, does the insurance plan in question cover such services as diagnostic, emergency and preventative care? Preventative care would cover such things as fluoride treatments and sealants. Also would full-mouth x-rays be covered by the plan? (One a year? Two?)

The next question would be, what kind of routine dental work is covered under the policy? Are these types of dental work done- bridges, braces, crowns, root canals, treatment for periodontal disease and oral surgery? Does the insurance plan cover dental implants, dentures or treatment for temporomandibular disorders? If it does then how much does it cover in terms of percentages? Is emergency dental work covered by the dental plan? Finally, does the plan address referrals that come from dental specialists? Can a specialist be chosen by the patient or not?

Since most dental insurance plans do not usually cover 100 percent of the procedure costs and often exclude many procedures, even with insurance it is likely you will be required to come up with a substantial amount of cash for major surgery. When you lose a tooth, whether in an accident or due to gum disease or illness, you’ll probably need to getdental implants. Basic implants can cost from $1250 to $3000.
